TRIBE022 | 2011-08-05

Zepherin Saint, connoisseur of world house music, co-founder of Tribe records, brings his new project Melange to North America. He kicks off the tour with the US release of his Midnight Mawal single, which is the first track from the series. Inspired by his nomadic journeys through North Africa and the Middle East, he recorded native musicians and global artists to feature in his music. Midnight Mawal draws from deep afro house, using its references to blend exotic instruments (KAWALA, Bozuk and the Oud) with jazz piano and Cuban rhythms. Syrian Mohanned Mcallah lays his voice (and heart) over the keys of nimble fingered pianist Professor Yoel Ben Yehuda. Zepherin Saint brings a signature mix of afro beats and rhythms rooted in house music, whilst LA's Jose Marquez delivers authentic Eastern rhythms that bubble under a stunning NI performance. The track has already found its way on to Louie Vega, Rocco and Joe Clausell's play list airing at parties from Miami to Paris to South Africa.

London DJ/Producer/A&R/ Zepherin Saint (aka Dean Zepherin) is a name that many people across the world have been fortunate to see and hear perform as he continues to wow crowds with his delicous blend of deep, soulful and worldly sounds. Dean graduated from playing drums, cello and piano to his brothers record collection, 2 turntables and a mixer at aged 12. Upon hearing Adonis No Way Back in 1986 he found his musical calling to create House music. This led to early forays in the studio for Zepherin producing the first British garage classic in 1987 Give Me Back My Love Boys in Shock feat. Carol Leeming becoming the first UK act to sign with Jack Trax. In the 90's Zepherin managed London's leading dance music store Black Market and also started a production company that produced and managed artists, signing deals with American labels DreamWorks and Def Jam. Zepherin's production company worked with writers such as R.Kelly, Tim and Bob and Daniel Debourg and produced the highly acclaimed Untitled album for Terri Walker. Missing the passion of his DJ life in 2006 he re-entered the arena and provided the cutting edge soundtrack for a private party for none other than Michael Jackson in Bahrain and had the honour of playing classics as Don't Stop Till You Get Enough to which MJ treated the audience to an up close and personal performance! Studio work continued and in 2008, Zepherin produced another now classic Circles with young London talent, Nathan Adams. It was the track of the WMC Conference in Miami in March 2009 and received tremendous support worldwide. This brought about a new chapter when Zepherin Saint and his now label partner Matt L- S set up Tribe Records set out to bring a new feeling to house music of quality over quantity.

Tribe's motto of One Sound One People captures the essence of what this company is all about. Music and dance is at the heart of this organization created by partners Dean Zepherin and Matt L-S in spring 2008. Simply wanting to inject new life into dance music that had a more worldly approach to its sound Tribe set out to promote positive communities through their international events and record releases. Since it%u2019s inception the label have built up some serious momentum releasing high quality soulful, deep and world music inspired sounds stretching from all corners of the globe. Releases include artists such as Timmy Regisford, Peven Everett, Bevan Godden & Arnaud D, Nathan Adams, Banane Mavoko, Dj Micks, Alpha & Omega, Duce Martinez, Kenny Bobien, Juan Smooth & George Vibe and many more. With club residencies based in Paris, Miami and London amongst featured performances around the world, Tribe have managed to build a loyal following of people around the world with music and art lovers.

Los Angeles DJ/Producer Jose Marquez's musical influence is a result of a deep Latin and World Music upbringing. Always intrigued by electronic dance music and music production technology, Jose's created deep Afro Latin dance floor bangers such as Celia Cruz Elegua, Nina Simone Black Bird, and Oumou Sangare Mogo Te De Diya Bee Ye. Jose continues to produce and DJ, his sound can best be described as a fusion of Deep Afro-Latin Soul and Percussive Dance Floor Rhythms.
